Windows Quiz

The Windows Quiz application and associated tools, developed by the GeoData Institute Electronic Publishing Group, are freely available for academic use to all members of staff within the University of Southampton.

A single self-extracting DOS executable qizdist.exe may be downloaded from this page.

This should be placed in a separate directory and executed to extract the following files:

quiz.exe, sample.qiz (sample.bmp)
The main Quiz application, and a sample quiz. The quiz executable reads configuration information either from the file quiz.ini in the same directory, or from a file specified as the command line parameter.

image.bmp, mcm.bmp, video.bmp
Bitmap files for the Quiz application action buttons, to be placed in Quiz bitmaps directories.

qizwrite.exe, qizwrite.ini
An application for creating, editing and encrypting Quiz files. Do not edit the qizwrite.ini configuration file. The file 10steps.txt gives simple instructions for creating and running a Quiz for the first time.

launch.exe, launch.ini
A simple Windows display, menu and launch program launch.exe, which either reads configuration information from the file launch.ini in the same directory, or from a file specified as the command line parameter.

threed.vbx, mci.vbx, cmdialog.vbx, grid.vbx, commdlg.dll, vbrun300.dll, ver.dll
Run-time files which are needed to execute Microsoft Visual Basic applications. These can be left in the quiz directory, or placed in the Windows system subdirectory if problems arise. In many cases, these files will already reside on the system.
