Welcome to your Advanced QGIS ONLINE course.
Please read through this page in detail. It includes all the information you require to access the course. Should you have any problems or questions please get in touch via training@geodata.soton.ac.uk
Course structure and timings
The course is structured into 5 sessions:

Session 1: Connection check | 7th De 2-3pm | This is a short session to test your zoom connection and to ensure you have correctly installed QGIS on your computer. |
Session 2: Group training | 8th Dec 9-12am | Group session with a mixture of presentations, demos and practical exercises with a 15mins break mid-morning. |
Session 3: Group training | 9th Dec 9-12am | Group session with a mixture of presentations, demos and practical exercises with a 15mins break mid-morning. |
Session 4: Group training | 10th Dec 9-12am | Group session with a mixture of presentations, demos and practical exercises with a 15mins break mid-morning. |
Session 5: Group training | 11th Dec 9-12am | Group session with a mixture of presentations, demos and practical exercises with a 15mins break mid-morning |

Ahead of the course
There are three things you need to do ahead of the course:
- install Zoom, the software used as course platform,
- install QGIS, the software used for the training, and
- download the training data.
Please follow the instructions below for every step.
1) Zoom Installation
We will use Zoom as video conferencing platform for this course. Don’t worry if you have not used Zoom before, it is very quick and easy to install and simple to use. All you require is a computer/laptop with a camera and microphone.
Please install Zoom ahead of the course using below instructions and contact us on training@geodata.soton.ac.uk if you have any troubles. If you have Zoom installed already, skip the next part and proceed directly to the QGIS installation instruction further down on this page.

2) QGIS Installation
QGIS is a free open-source GIS and the software that will be used during this training. Please install QGIS ahead of the course using below instructions and contact us on training@geodata.soton.ac.uk if you have any troubles. If you have QGIS installed already, please double check that you have the correct version. If you find you have a different version, just go ahead and follow below instructions to download the version required for this course. You can have multiple versions installed on the same device.

3) Download Training Data
The data used during the course are grouped into one zip file, please download the appropriate file from the 'Advanced QGIS (Online)' section on this website http://www.geodata.soton.ac.uk/geodata/download and save the file in C:/Apps
During the course
Joining a training session on Zoom
The course starts with a quick connection test. Join the training session by clicking on the Zoom link provided below and follow the prompts to run Zoom.
Meeting ID: 556 426 2079
Enter the meeting ID if prompted, enter your full name and the password you received in your joining email and click to join the training session.

You will join the call in the waiting room, as soon as the trainer is logged in, he/she will let you into the virtual training room. You will be considered an attendee. The GeoData Trainer will have host controls, including muting audio, using video, sharing your screen and more.
When you’re in the training session, you may click on the Start Video button to start your video.
Please note that we do not allow recording of any of the training sessions. Copies of the presentations will not be distributed but the content is provided via the step by step exercise documents that you will have received via email prior to course start.
