GIS Support for University staff and research students
The GeoData Institute provides GIS and other technical support to staff and students within the University who are working upon research projects.
Support has varied from simple guidance in how to use ArcGIS / MapInfo for a particular research problem, to much more complex GIS analysis and programming.
Recent projects GeoData have supported include:
- 3D Visualisation of historic chalk hill figures
- Estuary volume change in Southampton Water
- Multicriteria decision support tools for river restoration using GIS
- Ecological mapping of thermal plumes along the mid-Atlantic ridge
- Use of Ordnance Survey Mastermap data
- Data translation
- Spatio-temporal Mapping
- Census based choropleth mapping
