Geomorphological Assessment of the River Otter, Devon

The River Otter is a dynamic gravel-bed river in East Devon. Evidence of active channel migration is widespread throughout its catchment and consequently severe bank erosion is, and has been, a persistent problem.

In response, the Environment Agency commissioned GeoData to undertake a Geomorphological Audit of the River Otter to identify and understand the geomorphological processes which influence and control this channel activity.

This work has mapped the locations of sediment and erosion within the channel and using both field and desk based studies examined the sediment relations within the catchment and the nature of the channel changes.
