The Rural Development Service of the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) requires a nationally available dataset of rights of way in order to allocate rural support for recreational provision. GeoData has evaluated the technical options for developing a consistent dataset across England. Despite the existing data holdings within Local authorities there is still no nationally available spatial dataset.
