New Forest Open Management System

The GeoData Institute is working with the Forestry Commission Ecologists in the New Forest to develop a MapInfo-based conservation management system for non-forested heathland in the Open Forest (areas of heathland, bog, unenclosed woodland and ancient and ornamental woodland).

Historic records have been captured together with existing operational activities to provide an unrivalled opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the response of the open Forest to management. Data is managed within a GIS system. GeoData Institute is structuring a database, providing data capture and stock map data translation to provide an integrated system for the Forestry Commission staff. MapInfo training has been provided.
