Introduction to Quantum GIS (2 day course)

Quantum GIS Logo This NEW course introduces the underlying principles and methods of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It examines the processes involved in the capture, storage, manipulation, analysis, presentation and output of digital geographical data in a GIS and provides opportunities for the development of practical skills in processing data using a leading Open Source GIS software package, Quantum GIS.

Introduction to ArcGIS 10 (2 day course)

Updated to the include the new features introduced at ArcGIS version 10, this course introduces the underlying principles and methods of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It examines the processes involved in the capture, storage, manipulation, analysis, presentation and output of digital geographical data in a GIS and provides opportunities for the development of practical skills in processing data using an industry standard GIS software package.

15th – 16th May 2012

Advanced ArcGIS 10 (2 day course)

Updated to the include the new features introduced at ArcGIS version 10, this course builds on the delegate's existing knowledge of the underlying principles and methods of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). It comprises a series of presentations and computer–based practical sessions using ESRI's ArcGIS 10 software with example datasets taken from a variety of fields. The basic functionality of the three main elements of ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcCatalog and ArcToolbox) is expanded upon and customisation/extensions are introduced.

17th – 18th May 2012

Introduction to VB.NET & ArcObjects (3 day course)

This course is intended for those with a good basic knowledge of the ArcGIS desktop product who now wish to customise the environment to create their own tools. It provides a good basic grounding in the core ArcObjects typically used. More detailed treatment of these objects is covered in our Advanced Course.

ArcGIS 3D Analyst (2 day course)

This course is intended for those with a good basic knowledge of the ArcGIS desktop product but who now wish to explore the 3D environment. It is particularly well suited to those who wish to create landscape visualisations (e.g. landscape planners) or those who are working with 3d data (e.g. the coastal, marine and exploration sectors).

Introduction to Coastal & Marine GIS (3 day course)

The course introduces GIS concepts and techniques using ArcGIS 10. It describes available Coastal and Marine GIS datasets, which also form the basis for the course exercises. A project showcase, drawn from ABPmer's portfolio, illustrates how these datasets can be used within GIS to support coastal and marine decision making.

Introduction to MapInfo (2 day Course)

This course is intended for those who have little or no GIS knowledge or who wish to undertake some formalized training in MapInfo Professional having been largely self taught in the past.

Advanced MapInfo (2 day course)

This course is intended for those who have completed out introduction to MapInfo Professional course or have equivalent knowledge and experience. The course expands upon the basic functionality of MapInfo Professional. Topic covered include: Introduction to GIS customisation with MapBasic; expressions and functions; advanced queries; data capture and QA; advanced data display and output; and resources and utilities.

10th – 11th May 2012

Demystifying Map Projections (1 day course)

The course is designed to provide GIS professionals with practical training in handling coordinate systems (map projections and datums) within industry standard GIS packages.

The course places less emphasis on the mathematical theory of map projections and more on what the GIS professional needs to know in order to handle projections on a day–to–day basis and to be confident that the projection and parameters used are correct. The course is focussed on practicalities such as knowing when a dataset is correctly projected or which projection to choose in a given situation.
