Professor Chris Hill
Director, Professor in Geography and Environmental Sciences
Chris directs the multi-disciplinary environmental data team in the Institute, and with over 35 years of experience in UK and international environmental and socio-environmental assessment, evaluation and programme development. He is Director of Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise within the School.

Professor Jason Sadler
Co-Director, Professorial Enterprise Fellow
Jason leads GeoData's IT team, directing data management and software development activity. As a Computer Scientist with over 30 years' experience in a wide variety of the languages, tools and techniques of Software Engineering, Jason has specialised in delivering projects in areas of environmental and geospatial data management and infrastructure, open data, standards and open source technologies.

Dr Julia Branson
Business Analyst / Co-Director, Principal Enterprise Fellow
Julia leads GeoData’s GIS team and has a particular focus on environmental database specification and development. She is directing our work on plant health disease management with the Forestry Commission.

Duncan Hornby
Senior Enterprise Fellow
Duncan is a GIS Analyst/Developer/Trainer with over 25 years experience in using ESRI software. Duncan is an accredited River Habitat Surveyor and has specialised in the mapping and analysis of river systems. He has worked on numerous projects within the industries of forestry, marine traffic, census, historic monument recording, mobile mapping, land classification, satellite processing, travel surveys and poverty mapping. Many of these projects have involved development of bespoke tools or the automation of geo-processing and analyses.

Andrew Harfoot
Senior Enterprise Fellow
Andrew specialises in GIS software development and spatial analysis using open source software. He currently teaches the GeoData Advanced QGIS course. Thematic interests include Automated Zone Design, Spatio-temporal population modelling, Participatory GIS and conservation and habitat data management. Andrew is a long standing collaborator with the Office for National Statistics and Natural England.

Marcel Woutersen
GIS Technician
Marcel joined GeoData following the completion of his MSc dissertation in Environmental Consultancy with us, and has since furthered his expertise in both ESRI and QGIS software through a diverse range of projects. Marcel also plays a key role in supporting the delivery of GeoDatas' CPD training courses.

Andrew Sutton
GIS Analyst / Trainer, Senior Enterprise Fellow
Andrew manages GeoData’s GIS training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. He is a highly experienced GIS analyst and trainer, with a strong focus on leveraging ESRI’s ArcGIS Online platform to collect, manage, and visualise spatial data effectively.

Dr Efstathios Margaritis
GIS Analyst / Business Development Manager, Southampton Geospatial
Efstathios works across the GeoData Institute and Southampton Geospatial, supporting the development and delivery of GIS-based research, training programmes and strategic external engagement. He leads initiatives that connect geospatial data science with societal impact, with a particular focus on air and noise pollution, urban well-being, soundscape and spatial indicators for planning. He is actively involved in collaborative projects with local authorities and national agencies and supports the coordination of the Geospatial Summer School.

Ian Waldock

Ian is a software engineer and statistician, specialising in web and software development for large and complex data management projects, particularly within research and public sector applications.

Sam Goddard
Senior Software Engineer
Sam specialises in the production of complex, attractive and highly interactive data-driven web applications, using open source tools and complying with open industry standards for accessibility and responsive design.

Dr Maxim Bashevoy
Senior Software Engineer
Max is the lead expert on GeoData infrastructure development projects. This includes the specification, development and publication of systems and components, and evaluation, maintenance and enhancement of applications through collaboration with colleagues and clients. His particular focus is rapid prototype development of visualisation systems using AI and Machine Learning.

Mohammad is a software engineer experienced in the production of interactive data-driven web applications, using open source tools and complying with open industry standards for accessibility and responsive design.
