The GeoData team are collaborating with the University's Transportation Research Group on a major project funded by Network Rail and the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB).

The project investigates the impact of Heavy Axle Weight (HAW) rail traffic on bridges, aiming to help the industry optimise use of the network for freight while managing the maintenance and renewal of the key infrastructure.

The GeoData team have developed complex data infrastructure to map large volumes of HAW data to rail infrastructure, using bridge deterioration models to predict future impact, and tools for key users to interact with and visualise the rail network and engineering infrastructure.
