Recreational Access Monitoring System (RAMS)

Recreation access in the New Forest is largely unrestricted open access, yet this still needs careful management and monitoring, both to provide facilities and to reduce the impact on the sensitive environment.

GeoData has developed a GIS-based system to assist the Forest Enterprise in the New Forest to record and plan for access and recreation within the New Forest Inclosures and Open Forest. The system maps and integrates data from a wide range of sources for basemaps and thematic map production. The system is being developed in MS Access and MapInfo. Including training and support. Datasets currently modelled within the system include recreational facilities, tracks and path networks, Rights of Way, Constraints on access together with the operational elements of a working Forest.
