This HEIF-funded project evaluates the Tranquil City Index (TCI) as a planning-relevant indicator of urban tranquillity by comparing it with psychological responses using the Perceived Restorativeness Scale (PRS). Fieldwork at selected tranquil and non-tranquil urban sites in Southampton gathers participant-based data to test the reliability of TCI in reflecting perceived environmental quality.
The project aims to inform urban design, noise mitigation policy, and environmental impact assessment practices. Outputs will include a linked dataset, policy recommendations, and a journal publication.
