Population 24/7: space-time specific population surface modelling
New methodological techniques to redistribute census data through time and space.
Many areas of social science research and policy are concerned with the exact locations of population, for example to measure exposure or target resources. Currently available representations effectively estimate population at home addresses, or 'workplace' populations which provide a partial view of the population at places of work. Neither of these satisfy the pressing need for representations of the ever-changing spatial distribution of population over time.
GeoData developers worked with Professor David Martin and Samantha Cockings within Geography and Environment in the implementation of new methodological techniques to redistribute census data through time and space. A web based interface for downloading prepared datasets for a range of variables was also developed and runs from the UK National Census Development Unit.
